AC Termination

The LVCMOS AC termination is one of the less common termination types for this signal.  The majority of load current is drawn during rising and falling edges of the clock.  Compared to the parallel termination shown on the following slide, the AC termination consumes less power, however it requires some customization to work properly.  The capacitor, C1, needs to be tuned based on the trace length and capacitance, plus board material.  Typical board layout tools can calculate this value, however if trace lengths differ on a buffer with multiple outputs using this termination type it will require each termination to be fine tuned based on its trace length.
