thermal derating
Thermal de-rating curves provide immediate input to the current capability of the module, based on airflow and ambient temperature. They are provided at increments of output voltage. In this example, the 12 A DLynx is selected at 1.2 V output. Next, determine the environmental conditions. In this case, it is an ambient temperature of 85ºC and natural convection (or no forced airflow). Starting from the ambient temperature and up to the natural convection curve, the operating condition point is determined. Following this operating point to the left axis, it can be seen that the module would de-rate to 11.2 A at 85ºC and no forced air. Using the same curves, it can be seen that the 12 A DLynx offers full load at 80ºC and natural convection.
