This slide describes how to customize an active cable using the configuration utility. Launch the configuration utility by selecting in this order; Start, All Programs, Cypress, CYUSBS232 RDK, and USB Serial Configuration Utility. This will launch the Window with splash screen, the user can then click on the “Select Target” tab to display the device information for the available USB-to-UART devices. Select the appropriate device from the dropdown menu and click “Connect” which will lead to the screen shot that is shown on the slide. As can be seen, the device parameters can be modified to customize the design. The vendor and product IDs can be chosen, as well as the power mode of operation, from BUS powered or self-powered, and the maximum power that can be drawn by this device. Various manufacturing string or product string descriptions can be set. These are just a portion of the features, it is recommended that the designer consult the configuration utility user’s guide that can be downloaded from the RDKs webpage.
