This slide illustrates two USB-to-UART retrofit solutions with two off-the-shelf devices which have UART interfaces. The solutions use a standard USB-to-UART active cable or USB-to-RS232 active cable to allow them to connect to a USB enabled PC. In the first example, a blood glucose meter, which has a UART interface, connects to a USB-to-UART active cable with the Cypress solution CY7C65213 which then is connected to a PC. The second solution is a USB-to-RS232 cable that embeds the USB-to-UART bridge controller and the RS232 line driver in the cable that enables the ECG monitor to be connected to a PC.
