Applications demand higher resolution, faster response times, and more functions at lower system costs and smaller physical size. The XMEGA includes everything that is required to achieve all of this from a single microcontroller. The fast, 12-bit ADC and DACs can perform high resolution and high speed data conversion directly. A built-in programmable gain stage, accurate reference voltage and a clever 12-bit compare function help to further reduce the need for external components. Accurate and high frequency waveform generation can be done without external DACs or filters. Accurate internal oscillators with ±1% accuracy, reliable design with high ESD tolerance, and I/O pins that can sink up to 20 mA help to cut the need for external clocks, protection or drive-transistors.
