AVR XMEGA is Microchip’s family of high-end 8/16-bit microcontrollers, designed to achieve the level of system performance required by the most demanding embedded applications. Many of today’s embedded applications need low power consumption combined with powerful features. AVR XMEGA is designed to achieve exactly this by mixing an innovative and high-end feature set with an efficient low power technology. Microchip’s picoPower® technology provides a set of low power features and design techniques that brings the application power consumption down to new levels. This includes features like true 1.6 V operation, and only 500 nA to power an external 32.768 kHZ watch crystal, a real time counter, and full RAM retention. The 8-bit AVR CPU delivers up to 32 MIPS at 32 MHz in the XMEGA. The DMA Controller and the innovative Event System in the XMEGA offloads data transfer and inter-peripheral signaling from the CPU to further boost performance, and save power.
