On the wire termination side, the choices are typically solder, crimp and poke, or insulation displacement. The 3M™ D Sub 8000 Series connector shown here uses the proven insulation displacement or IDC contact. This technology allows multiple conductors of a ribbon cable to be attached to the connector in an easy operation, which offers the benefits of quick and accurate terminations and higher yields compared to more time-consuming methods such as soldering or crimping and poking individual lines.
