Cross talk refers to the noise couple from any active conductor or signal line to any nearby conductor or quiet line. Forward or far end cross talk (FEXT) is the amount of noise at the output end of the cable that is induced on a nearby ‘quiet’ line. Factors affecting FEXT include pulse rise times and ground-signal conductor configurations (such as GSG, GSGSG etc). FEXT is specified as a percentage of the input pulse amplitude (for example, “a 5V signal with a 10% forward cross talk induces 5V on a nearby ‘quiet’ line”).
