The design is mainly comprised of an ATZB-S1-256-3-0-U Zigbit module and an Ethernet controller. The Zigbit module is an ultra-compact and low-power 2.4GHz IEEE 802.15.4/ZigBee OEM module from Atmel. It uses the ATmega256RFR2 SoC, an 8-Bit AVR Microcontroller with high data rate transceiver for the 2.4GHz ISM band. The radio transceiver provides high data rates from 250kbps up to 2Mbps; frame handling, outstanding receiver sensitivity and high transmit output power enabling a very robust wireless communication. While the Zigbit provides the 802.15.4 interface, the Ethernet controller supports the 802.3 interfaces for the circuit. It incorporates a number of packet filtering schemes to limit incoming packets. It also provides an internal DMA module for fast data throughput and hardware assisted checksum calculation, which is used in various network protocols. The circuit is interconnected through an SPI interface.
The ATZB-S1-256-3-0-U Zigbit module is dynamic and supports a wide range of applications. It can be used to design wireless sensing, automation, monitoring, control, and data acquisition applications. It helps in eliminating the need for costly and time-consuming RF development, and shortens time-to-market for wireless applications.
